San Agustin Colombia

At the top of the Magdalena, where the river gets its name, lived a mysterious and enigmatic civilization that utilized special volcanic rock to make art that would come to immortalize their mind`s creation and eternal silence for generations. Classified by UNESCO in 1995 as a world heritage site, the archeological park in San Agustin has been recognized as a Pre-Colombian settlement that flourished from around 600 B.C to around 1200 A.D. Many of the artifacts discovered include, sculptures, Sarcophagi, Monoliths, and many tombs. For tourists and travelers, it`s a great pleasure to walk the weaving and winding paths, through dense forest and open fields to enjoy the archeological wonders. The sculptures can e admired up close in their natural habitat, allowing all that care to view, an intimate look at the world perceptions of an ancient culture. For historians, archeologists and curious travelers, a trip to Colombia is not complete until their eyes meet the wonders of San Agustin.
